Switched is another book that has been collecting dust on my shelf that I should had read earlier. Now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long because now I have to wait until February when it's going to finally be re-released (and sadly not at the original price I bought Switched for).

Wendy never understood why her mother hated her so much or why she was convinced that Wendy was a monster. Everything pretty much changes on Wendy's 6th birthday when her mother tries to chop her into pieces in the kitchen. Now, years later, she's living with her aunt and her older brother Matt. Both love and care for Wendy fiercely (Matt a little too fiercely if you ask me). But when Finn, the new boy who can't seem to stop staring at Wendy shows up, she finally learns the truth behind her mother's accusations. And is brought to where she belongs -- Trylle where her rightful place is next to the queen.

I liked Wendy, she was a strong character who only wanted a place to belong. I found her to be a little impulsive, a little foolish and completely stubborn but she has a good heart and she strongly stands for the things she believes in. She doesn't like being pushed around or told what to do, so I felt her frustration when she's put in a palace with all this absolutely ridiculous rules. I think her decision in the end wasn't a wise one, but I can understand why she did it. The thing that frustrates me the most about Wendy is that she refuses to see how powerful she CAN be and just cowers away pretending that no one knows what they're talking about without hearing anyone out.

I really liked Rhys too, though I'm not really sure if I was suppose to. He played a pretty big part in the story and for some reason I always saw him as 10 in my mind when in reality he should be the same age as Wendy. In a world like Trylle it was nice to see someone... normal. I absolutely LOVED Finn! He was mysterious and indifferent because he was loyal to his job and his duty and when he let his guard down it was just ahh!

It sucks how the Trylle community is... based on class and ranks and jobs. How they view others and how they view each other. And how royalty can only be with royalty. I'm eager to see what happens next and how Wendy's relationship with her real mother plays out. I'm sure Elora has a few hundred juicy secrets that need spilling!

"You really shouldn't let him cook for you," Finn advised, looking at me for the first time. "He gave me food poisoning once."
"You cannot get food poising from an orange!" Rhys protested and looked back at him.

*** I know there's a new cover, but this is the cover I read from and for some reason, I feel like I'd be dishonest to myself if I posted the new cover *shrugs*

  1. It's so funny that you said that about Rhys...it took me a few pages to realize he wasn't a little boy too. Which is weird, because when he first opens the front door, he's described as around Wendy's age (I backtracked and checked that after they got a little "too" comfortable lol). But for whatever reason, my mind completely skipped over that part and pictured him as around 10ish, too!
