I'm having a bit of a problem... well no, not really a problem since I'm well aware of the solution, but I just need someone to listen.

I received a book for review awhile back and my interest in the book was that it fell under the chick-lit category and it wasn't written like your normal novel. I tried several times to get into the book and it just wasn't happening. I know not everyone is going to love every single book out there, but I can't help but feel guilty for not being able to finish or even like a book that I'm given for review. I know, silly right?

I know it's best to email the publisher and let them know that you will not be reviewing their book, but I do feel guilty about it. Like I let them down. Do any of you feel that way too?

Off I go to send the email, I'm feeling a little better getting that off my chest!

  1. *pats your arm* I feel ya girl! Last night, I read an ebook that made me wanna throw my phone against the wall, but I didn't...phone right?

You didn't let them down. Not all books are of good consumption to all readers. =)

  2. I know how you feel...and here's what I did (and have plans to do again) I'm having a "Second Chance giveaway" for the book. All I ask is that whoever gets it posts a review somewhere. Doesn't matter where. :)

  3. Personally I just review the book. So long as your review explains why you didn't like it, they'll appreciate your honesty. But a negative review certainly shouldn't harm your relationship with the publisher.

  4. Thought about this yesterday, and like someone already said. I think I would try to give it to someone else, and they would promise then to review it. That way the book would get a chance :)

  5. It's never happened to me (yet) but you should write a reveiw about why you didnt like it just to explain to your reader. And maybe you can pass it on to someone who has an interest in it and can review the book too.

  6. I feel your pain. This hasn't happened to me (yet) but I know it's an awkward situation. I think I would just write my honest review of the book saying why I didn't like it. We can't love every book we're sent. :)
