I’m Gwen Frost, a second-year warrior-in-training at Mythos Academy, and I have no idea how I’m going to survive the rest of the semester. One day, I’m getting schooled in swordplay by the guy who broke my heart—the drop-dead gorgeous Logan who slays me every time. Then, an invisible archer in the Library of Antiquities decides to use me for target practice. And now, I find out that someone at the academy is really a Reaper bad guy who wants me dead. I’m afraid if I don’t learn how to live by the sword—with Logan’s help—I just might die by the sword...

I really enjoyed Touch of Frost when I read it last year and so I was excited to keep the tradition (is it still a tradition if you've only done it one other time?) going and read the second book for my Halloween Challenge this year.

Kiss of Frost is taken over the span of I believe a week. Or a weekend. Either way during the epic Winter Carnival is here! And Gwen just has to go. So she does. And she hates it. Prior to, she gets into it with Oliver, one of Logan's friends and she totally misreads him. I love how the friendship between Gwen and Oliver unfolded. It was such a tricky but true to high school thing. And of course, during this Winter Carnival Gwen gets into a bit of trouble. By bit I mean an extreme amount because you know, the whole thing that happened in the last book. Yeah, that. There's a new boy that makes a brief appearance in Gwen's life to take her mind off Logan. And I do mean brief. I wish this part would had been drawn out more. Or more time/days would had passed before you know, crap hit the fan and all.

We get more Logan and why he is the way he is. Which makes sense... but also seems like a big cop-out. Also, Kiss of Frost doesn't really end in a cliff hanger. Which was surprising since there's more in the series. Overall, I wasn't too into this installment. I still prefer the first book over this one but it did provide essential information within the series.

Touch of Frost by Jennifer Estep
Release Date: August 1st, 2011 by Kensington
Details: 350 pages, paperback
Series: Mythos Academy #1
Source: Bought on my Nook
Rating: 4 out of 5
Summary (Goodreads):

My name is Gwen Frost, and I go to Mythos Academy — a school of myths, magic and warrior whiz kids, where even the lowliest geek knows how to chop off somebody's head with a sword and Logan Quinn, the hottest Spartan guy in school, also happens to be the deadliest.

But lately, things have been weird, even for Mythos. First, mean girl Jasmine Ashton was murdered in the Library of Antiquities. Then, someone stole the Bowl of Tears, a magical artifact that can be used to bring about the second Chaos War. You know, death, destruction and lots of other bad, bad things. Freaky stuff like this goes on all the time at Mythos, but I'm determined to find out who killed Jasmine and why—especially since I should have been the one who died. . .

Touch of Frost completely surprised me. I started off not really liking the book, mostly because all Gwen did was complain. About how she had no friends, about how her mom died, how much she hated her school, how she didn't believe anything going on... just everything. In my head I was chanting "shut up, shut up, shut up". Seriously, the girl annoyed me. It wasn't until after 100 pages that things started to pick up. I also liked how there wasn't this strong romance thing going on. I mean there was romance going on all around Gwen but not with Gwen herself which was a nice breath of fresh air! I love the scenes with Gwen and Logan the most, it's hard to explain but it kinda gives you this gooey feeling... in a good way!

I loved the characters! Daphne took awhile to warm up to, but you could tell she was a lot sweeter than she let people see. And Logan! Ohh Logan! He's definitely got that bad-boy-I-could-care-less swag going on but I'm really interested in getting to know him better, I'm a sucker for a legit bad boy with secrets. And can I just say Morgan totally got what was coming to her? And Jasmine? I'm usually not a fan of a mean girl but this girl gave me chills!

I'm a big fan of mythology. When I was younger I did nothing but read up on Greek Gods and Goddesses (and... stars... yeah, I was a nerd, so what?) so this aspect totally interested me. I wasn't a fan of the whole modern day myths and their scandalous stories, but you know... it kinda works. They're just like normal, stuck up, spoiled kids just with you know... the power to kill. It's kinda like Mean Girls meets Xena.

I'm really looking forward to what happens now that Dawn has seriously pissed off the evil and what's up with Logan.
