Summary (Goodreads):

Evie's always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she's falling for a shape-shifter, and she's the only person who can see through paranormals' glamours.

But Evie's about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal.

Paranormalcy is one of those books I've had since its release date and haven't read yet. I remember everyone was raving about it and how funny Evie was so I made sure to make it my October read priority this year (cause I think two years is about time, right?!).

Paranormalcy starts off sorta weird. Like I didn't really understand what Evie's job was or why she was doing what she did and why was Reth so freakin creepy. But things do start to make sense as you spend more time with Evie and her bizarre world.

I can't say I loved Evie, but I didn't hate her either. I felt the frustration through out the book with her. And she was likable. She wasn't as snarky as I thought she would be but she was sarcastic and she stood her ground the best she could when she needed to. She also wasn't easily influenced and I like that! I also really liked Lend, which I think is a pretty cool name considering what he does. I liked that friendship turned something more between Lend and Evie was realistic and slow moving. It was cute. I also really liked Lish. I thought she was the perfect friend for Evie and when the attack happened my heart literally broke with Evie. I also really dug Lend's dad, he was really sweet to to Evie having just met her and not really knowing her intentions. And Lend's mom. I'd definitely want to know more about her!

I didn't really like Raquel and I absolutely did not like Reth. Like I said, he was creepy. Unbelievably creepy and it sucks that Raquel was so narrow minded that she didn't listen to Evie as if Evie didn't spend all this time with the faeries and knows nothing about what she's talking about until it was too late. The secrets the Reth kept away from Evie also really annoyed me. I get that faeries are all about the secrets but you can't start and stop and pick the answers you want when you brought it up in the first place! You want to convince her to "fill" herself but you won't even give her solid answers? Get real faerie boy!

While I didn't love this book as much as I thought I would (partly because the secrets were really starting to get on my nerves since no one made sense or would finish their damn thoughts) I did enjoy it and I'm curious to know what everyone was talking about so I'll most likely end up picking up the second book. But I honestly don't know how much more of Reth I can stand lol.
