Summary (Goodreads):

Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father--an elusive European warlock--only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters.

By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tagalong ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire student on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect.
As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all Prodigium, especially her.

Hex Hall is about a girl named Sophie who's half witch and has no idea how to control herself. Well that's not really true. But she gets herself into trouble with her magic all the time which is why she's sent away to Hex Hall. And from there, things get a little... strange.

I loved Sophie. She was loyal, sarcastic, strong and determined. She stood up for herself and for her only friend (and roommate) Jenna, a young outcast Vampire. She went through a lot of crap at Hex Hall and she learned more about herself and her past than she probably needed to know. I loved Jenna, she seemed like a really sweet girl. I hated the coven witches, they're your typical I-must-have-what-I-want mean girls but with magic. Archer, I don't know how I feel about him... I don't really have an opinion I guess. I kinda wished the Faeries were friendlier.

Hex Hall had a lightweight mystery to it, and maybe it would had been more epic if I hadn't jumped ahead and read the synopsis for Demonglass and ruined it for myself. But either way, I found myself interested in the books that Sophie was researching in hopes that she would figure out who was behind all the accidents because it surely couldn't had been Jenna (even though that girl has a knack for being at the wrong place at the wrong time)! There was a secret I wasn't expecting towards the end of the book and that just blew me away.

I absolutely enjoyed reading this book. I've heard so many great things about it over the last year and I've had my eye on it since its release. I have no idea why it took me so long to read it, it's definitely on my favorites list!

And, does anyone happen to know why there's a black cat on every cover? I was hoping it would be mentioned somewhere in the book... lol

Just before I could do something super lame like spread my arms wide and burst into the chorus of "Colors of the Wind," I heard a voice say, "Why aren't you in class?"

  3. Omg I love this book to! Awesome review and I totally figured out why there's a Black cat on every book! The cat is a Greymalkin or also known as a Grimalkin which is an evillooking magical cat but it totally stands for the Greymalkin Island the school was located on! I think. I might not be totally right but thats just my opinion :3
