When her boyfriend, Danny, is killed in a car accident, Wren can’t imagine living without him. Wild with grief, she uses the untamed powers she’s inherited to bring him back. But the Danny who returns is just a shell of the boy she once loved.

Wren has spent four months keeping Danny hidden, while her life slowly unravels around her. Then Gabriel DeMarnes transfers to her school and somehow, inexplicably, he can sense her secret. Wren finds herself drawn to Gabriel, who is so much more alive than the ghost of the boy she loved. But Wren can’t turn her back on Danny or the choice she made for him—and she realizes she must find a way to make things right, even if it means breaking her own heart.

Cold Kiss was one of the titles I was excited to read this summer but... it wasn't at all what I thought it would be.

Being my first actual zombie book I didn't really know what to expect. The story starts off with Danny already being back and Wren unsure about her actions. It was a little confusing to understand, I guess I expected it to start off after his accident or something. You get a peak of who Danny use to be but I didn't feel like that was enough. Wren reflected on the things he did not so much who he was. As for Wren, I liked her as a character and I felt for her during the times she struggled with what she did. There was a bit of a paranormal aspect thrown in but you don't get any explanation as to what it is or anything about it. Wren herself doesn't know a thing about it either, just that she has it. Her mom keeps it a secret and never really reveals anything through out the whole book, which bugged me. Gabriel comes out of nowhere and somehow he "knows her secret". The romance between Gabriel and Wren kinda left me with "wtf?!" it just seemed so rushed. But I will admit, I did like Gabriel's character.

The suspense of wondering what Wren will do kept me turning the pages, and I do think that this is a heartfelt book about loss but other than that, there wasn't much else. Half the time I didn't really understand where the story was going.

  1. I was excited about this too, but when I read the first chapter I was already off it. I don't know what it was about it, but it's just not the book for me, I suppose. Thanks for the honesty.
