Summary (goodreads):
Lily Sanderson has a secret, and it’s not that she has a huge crush on gorgeous swimming god Brody Bennett, who makes her heart beat flipper-fast. Unrequited love is hard enough when you’re a normal teenage girl, but when you’re half human, half mermaid like Lily, there’s no such thing as a simple crush.

Lily’s mermaid identity is a secret that can’t get out, since she’s not just any mermaid – she’s a Thalassinian princess. When Lily found out three years ago that her mother was actually a human, she finally realized why she didn’t feel quite at home in Thalassinia, and she’s been living on land and going to Seaview high school ever since, hoping to find where she truly belongs. Sure, land has its problems – like her obnoxious, biker boy neighbor Quince Fletcher – but it has that one major perk – Brody. The problem is, mermaids aren’t really the casual dating type – when they “bond,” it’s for life.

When Lily’s attempt to win Brody’s love leads to a tsunami-sized case of mistaken identity, she is in for a tidal wave of relationship drama, and she finds out, quick as a tailfin flick, that happily-ever-after never sails quite as smoothly as you planned.

This was a cute, light, fluffy read. It's the second mermaid book I've read and it differed from the first one I read (The Mermaid's Mirror). What I like about it is that there's no set assumptions of mermaids (at least, not that I'm aware of) so you can go anywhere with it.

Lily is half human and half mermaid. After finding out her mother lived on land, she wanted to attempt to as well. Kinda gave her a sense of feeling closer to her mom, who she's never met. She's in love with one of the hottest guys in school and she spends her time trying not to kill her next door neighbor who constantly pushes her buttons. She's also not exactly the most prettiest or most popular girl in school (which explains why she hasn't ended up with the guy she's in love with). And she also has that half mermaid secret thing she's keep from everyone... oh and that's she's a princess.

So when her annoying next door neighbor Quince promises to get her a private moment she's been aching for with Brody, that's when things start getting interesting. Who knew a simple kiss could change everything?

I honestly, was never a fan of Brody. It's just something about him... even though he was really nice to Lily and showed some sort of interest through out the book, I just... didn't really like him. Quince, however! I liked him from the beginning. Even though he pushed her buttons, you could sense that he cared about her... even when he was making her mad. The mer world that was painted for us was a really cute and fluffy one. One thing I didn't really get though was that she loved sushi. Wouldn't that be like... eating her kind? Okay, maybe not. But it was just weird. But added on to the cute and fluffyness! The ending was a huge twist for me and left me  excited to read the sequel!

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and it makes a perfect summer read!

Oh and happy release day Forgive My Fins =)!

  2. I liked Oh. My. Gods. so there is a good chance I'd like this as well. Quince does sound like the better character compared to Brody. Lily seems to be a pretty interesting character too. I enjoyed your review.

  3. I've never read a mermaid book. Thanks for your review; if I can get this for my school's library I think it would be a good fit

  4. Yay! Glad you like it--I should have my ordered copy tomorrow and I'm so excited to read it.
